Journalist captured and attacked

Nepal Lokshari Kuwar editor/publisher of Morning Bell daily was captured and attacked by a group of indecorous people on 2 May at Dhangadi of Kailali, a far western district of Nepal.
According to Birendra Rawal, president of Press Chautrai Nepal , three hooligans Ganesh Chand, Lalit Kuwar and Prem Kalel beat him brutally. During the attack, he received serious wound on his head, neck and two of his teeth are broken. He is being treated at Seti Regional Hospital .
Rawal said that the investigation of the incident is underway. He also informed that journalist Kuwar might have been attacked as he had disseminated the news related to timber smuggling, prostitution in the area and illegal export/import of goods from the Indian border. Prem Kalel, one of the indecorous person was arrested and is under the custody of ward police.
Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has condemned the incident and has urged the government to find and punish the guilty. The Federation has also urged the government to provide safety and security to the journalists.
